These small china (not glass) buttons have two holes and the body colors are white or ivory. They are called stencils because the design looks like it was applied with the use of a stencil. Some of the designs, especially the ones with unbroken rings (such as the button on lower right) could not have been applied that way. China Stencil buttons were especially popular in the 1930′s and are loved by collectors for their bright and distinct designs. Sixty-three different patterns have been catalogued.
