Remake that Funky 70s Needlepoint Kit

Recently I listed some 70s era kits, which got me to thinking about how one can get rid of those funky 70s colors and make them new and fresh with up-to-date color combinations. So I decided to play a little bit with an image to see what would happen if I changed the colors a bit. Here’s the original image.
latchhookballoons (I know not funky 70s, but I’m not that good with ArtRage yet and needed to pick something simple. So bear with me).

First I thought that changing the background color might change the image a bit. So I picked black because it gives me a blank canvas for picking different colors for the balloons.

Then I decided on a pink color scheme and filled in the balloons with varying shades of pink.

See how it totally changes the look?

The point of this exercise is that you can pick the colors that you want and work the canvas without recoloring it. Match your home decor color scheme–create a contrast of color to pop your wall or a pillow. Use a retro color scheme from the 50s or 60s. The possiblities are endless.

Shopping Hint:  Instead of just looking at kits on eBay or your local thrift store, look for painted canvas.  Some of the designs of painted canvases are just lovely and you don’t have to pay for all that yarn you won’t use.

And if you don’t want to stick with the same image and want to change it up a bit, look at what becky has done with a peace pillow kit. Wow! The possibilities….
