Simplicity Pattern Company is a relative latecomer to the pattern industry. The company was begun in 1927 and their goal was to produce a low cost (originally 15 cents) and easy to make pattern. They are not known for producing couture designs, but are a good record of what the everyday American woman of the era wore. Customers responded by making Simplicity one of the most prolific pattern companies (over 1600 patterns currently in print).
In the 1940’s Simplicity began a major sewing education program. Travelling representatives, fashion shows, educational books and literature were presented and disseminated across the country cementing Simplicity as the key source for learning to sew. The dependence on the brand for sewing education and the performance of the product grew to define the company as highly reputable, dependable and a key player in consumers’ lifetime experiences.
Today, Simplicity produces patterns under the brand names So Easy, New Look, and Simplicity. Their website offers out of print patterns for sale until their stock runs out.
